South Africa have approached many of their ODIs as if they were playing a
knockout game in the ICC Cricket World Cup. Finally, on Wednesday, they
will get to see whether such an attitude delivers them a milestone that
has hung around their necks since they appeared on the world stage in
1992.
Over the last eight years, Sri Lanka have established themselves as the most consistent side in International Cricket Council events. Success was elusive until the World Twenty20 in Bangladesh in 2014, but since making the final of the World Cup in the West Indies in 2007, Sri Lanka have been involved in title clashes more often than any other team.
The affable Proteas coach Russell Domingo told reporters at the SCG on Monday that the team would draw from all that it had done over the last year or so, including beating Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka last season rather than be caught up by the defeats of the past. "We want to focus on our skills and not focus too much on the opposition or the occasion," he said.

Before the World Cup, Sri Lanka travelled to New Zealand for two Tests and seven One-Day Internationals. They lost the two-Test series 0-2 and were beaten 2-4 in the ODIs, but Atapattu disagreed with suggestions that his team had played badly, even as he spoke of the discussions within the team at the end of the tour. "First of all, we didn't do badly in New Zealand. It was only one Test match in which we were outplayed. We almost won the second one. It was a missed catch that cost us the whole game, otherwise we would have finished that Test within three days," he insisted. "We lost the ODI series 4-2, where we all believe we could have won at least one more. This is against New Zealand, who on paper and in performance have been the best side up until now. So it's not a bad performance for us."ICC Cricket World Cup Quarter Finals Match 1- Sri Lanka vs South Africa - Free Online HD Live Streaming

Sangakkara vs AB de Villiers :
I think, importantly,
they are both really good guys. We actually had a cup of coffee with
Kumar in Christchurch before the serious business started and just
chatted about cricket. He is such a lovely, unassuming guy. AB de
Villiers is very similar. They are both at the top of the game at the
moment and playing really well. If the all-out focus is going to be on
Sangakkara, then we are going to be under pressure because Sri Lanka
have got some really good players. And if Sri Lanka are just focussing
on de Villiers, it will suit us real nice as well because we also have
some seriously good players in our ranks. So it is not just about those
two players going forward.
