New Zealand is the only team which won all the matches it played so far in the tournament. Its semi-final match against South Africa probably showed why no team managed to beat the Kiwis yet. While Grant Elliott’s unbeaten 84 showed the team’s composure, Brendon McCullum’s fiery 59 off 26 balls showed that the team may get through even the most difficult situations.New Zealand are electrifying, but Australia are clinical at home. The visitors are unbeaten, but the hosts have big-tournament pedigree. The teams have largely kept things classy, sure, but on both sides of the Tasman, there is an edge to this final.

New Zealand are without doubt the form side of the World Cup, and like the parents' favourite child Brendon McCullum proudly said he expected the lion's share of neutral backing in the final..The Black Caps have made it to the finals for the first time in history after defeating South Africa in the nail biting finish during the semi final. With the help of rain, New Zealand won the match by four wickets (D/L method) with one ball to spare.McCullum's manic starts have thrilled the nation all summer long, and his hyper-aggression in the field, which often sees four slips and a gully in place, has typified his team's playing manifesto. They attack when the attackin's good. They keep shoving when the opposition shoves back. And even when aggression seems the silliest approach, McCullum keeps backing his bowlers to make breakthroughs.

So often in this World Cup, his men have vindicated his strategy.Australia will be hoping for pretty much the same against New Zealand, its little brother from across the Tasman, at the sprawling, intimidating cauldron that the Melbourne Cricket Ground is.Much has been made of the fact that this is New Zealand’s first visit to Australia in six years. That, having got used to playing on the smaller grounds back home for the last month and a half, the players will be caught out by the vastness of the MCG. That, this is New Zealand’s first World Cup final while Australia have been there and done that several times.
